The palmbeach³ Contemporary Art Fair Brings Renowned Museum Curators to 12th Annual Fair As Part of Its Innovative Programming

West Palm Beach, Fla. (December 1, 2008) – The palmbeach³ Contemporary Art Fair is gearing up for its 12th season, January 15-18, 2009 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center with new, innovative programming including recruiting top tier museum curators to conduct private tours of the fair, participate in the lecture series and VIP programs and also encourage collector groups from their own Museum to attend the four-day event.

Sponsored by The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, the fair will present a compelling, multi-disciplinary exhibition of modern and contemporary art designed to appeal to both seasoned and novice collectors. This year, Fair director Fran Kaufman launches the inaugural Museum Curator Program designed to attract noted art professionals nationwide to the fair. Art collectors and Palm Beach residents Dale and Doug Anderson are the benefactors of this bold, new initiative. The couple serves on the palmbeach³ Host Committee and are actively involved with The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, Calif.; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach.

"We have been involved in palmbeach³ since its inception, and are highly impressed with the direction that Fran Kaufman has brought the fair over the last three years," said Doug Anderson. "There is a good balance of outstanding dealers from around the world that bring a diverse range of contemporary art to this market. We believe it is essential for major museums to be exposed to the fair’s distinctive offerings."

"With so many collectors worldwide telling me museum curators share distinctive insight across a range of fields, this programming was a logical next step," said Fran Kaufman. "I am enormously grateful to Dale and Doug Anderson for providing the essential support to bring such distinguished members of the museum curator community to the fair."

Some of the acclaimed museum curators and art professionals participating this year include Christopher Phillips, senior curator at New York’s International Center of Photography (ICP), an expert on Chinese contemporary art who recently curated the Royal Ontario Museum exhibition Shanghai Kaleidoscope. His newest exhibition, Edward Steichen: In High Fashion featuring 175 works by Steichen drawn largely from the Condé Nast archives, opens at the ICP on January 16. Eric C. Shiner, the Milton Fine Curator of Art at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pa., who specializes in postwar Japanese photography, painting and performance art; Neil Watson, executive director of the Katonah Museum of Artin New York, who previously served as chief curator of the Museum of Glass: International Center for Contemporary Art in Tacoma, Wash. and curator of exhibitions and contemporary art at The Norton Museum of Art; Barbara Tannenbaum, the chief curator of public programs for the Akron Art Museum in Ohio; and Diana Edkins, director of exhibitions and limited-edition photographs for the Aperture Foundation in New York. Also participating will be The Norton Museum of Art’s William and Sarah Ross Soter Curator of Photography Charles Stainback.
